Lyndon is a Caledonia County town of about 5,490 people, the second-largest town in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom after neighboring St. Johnsbury. Its main village, Lyndonville, sits on the Passumpsic River with two I-91 exits in town. Lyndon has five covered bridges, hosts the Caledonia County Fair every August, and is home to Lyndon Institute and a Vermont State University campus. Living in Lyndon
Lyndonville, just east of the center of town, is Lyndon's main village and the hub for its smaller villages. The town's welcome sign calls Lyndon "The Covered Bridge Capital of the Northeast Kingdom," and it has five of them: the Chamberlin Mill, Millers Run, Randall, Sanborn, and School House bridges.
Every August, the Caledonia County Fair comes to Mountain View Park in Lyndonville. First held in 1855, it's billed as Vermont's oldest fair, and it's run by the community to celebrate the region's farming past and present.
For the outdoors, Lyndon is next door to some of the Northeast Kingdom's best-known recreation: Burke Mountain and the Kingdom Trails network are just up Route 114 in Burke. St. Johnsbury is a short drive south on I-91 or US Route 5.
Schools and College
Lyndon Town School, in the Kingdom East School District, serves students from PreK through grade 8. For high school, Lyndon students attend Lyndon Institute in Lyndon Center, an independent school founded in 1867 that enrolls local day students along with boarding students. Vermont State University also has a campus in Lyndon, formerly Lyndon State College.
